The days are getting longer, the temperature is getting warmer. The last push to get through the school year is upon us. All these things make me think of summer camp.
Even though CAYC doesn’t begin until July 9, we are in full swing making sure that everything is ready for the 200 campers we expect to attend this year. There is no way we can do this on our own. Just think for a minute abut all the logistics that must come together to be prepared for that many campers. Here are just a few:
- Food – We will feed 300 people healthy meals and snack for six days. This amounts to 4,200 individual meals and 1,800 snacks, volunteers to plan, cook and serve the meals, and funds to purchase food and supplies;
- Staff – Qualified cabin counselors and cabin co-counselors are needed in 18 cabins (a total of 54 volunteers);
- Funds to cover scholarships for a majority of campers (at least $21,000.00);
- Volunteer staff to cover a variety of positions.
You may not think of yourself in terms of being able to do any of these things. I would ask that you inquire of God, to see how he might direct you so that one child, or even many, might leave this year’s camp knowing that they are a child of God. If not you, then who? If not now, then when?
